So I got a test kit and this is my results
Amonia .25ppm
Nitrite .25ppm
Nitrate 0ppm
PH 8.0

The brown algae has been retreating so I'm hoping this means my tank is at the end of the starting cycle. I really don't want to add chemicals, so I'm hoping Amonia and nitrite will come down on its own.

For tank inhabitants, I currently have:
1 mollie (I started with this guy and after 2-3 weeks I added the rest)
2 clowns
1 sebae anemone
1 banded shrimp

Small cleanup crew: 3 snails and 10 tiny hermit crabs, which I had to move to sump since I learned that banded shrimp can pull them out of their shells!!

I'm guessing I need to wait for Amonia and nitrite to be 0 before starting corals? Or is their some hearty corals that can handle not so perfect water?

The test results are indicating your tank is still cycling. I would recommend you wait until the ammonia is 0 before adding anything else. Because you have nitrites that means your ammonia has likely already peaked. You should see 0 ammonia and registerable nitrates in the next week or so and then your in the clear. Happy reefing!

Thanks for checking up on me.

I had a bacteria blume, that made the water cloudy for a couple days and kind of stank. Then the water cleared up and tank is pretty clear now. Even the diatomes, brown stuff went away. Also all the levels tested 0s, so I think my tank has completed its cycling. (Fingers crossed)

Tank looks pretty bare, so I'm really looking forward to the swap!! Hope people bring some easy beginner stuff.

I was reading about Copepods and was thinking of trying to get them established in my sump. Was going to wait til the swap to ask you folks about it.

My first corals!!

Now my tank finally has some color.

Of course my wife and kids like the small tiny flower looking ones growing on the rock. I'm not sure what those are?

My shrimp doesn't like the idea of sharing his cave with Violet though.[Image: 78e7c873e3087ed59eafd10d63e6d3a6.jpg][Image: bfb97466384e1a3afd2233e87066a85b.jpg][Image: b4425d00d9f89cb9dbc8c8c4ccb084e2.jpg][Image: b80f4e215e6797075f4e4f1fe6582c52.jpg][Image: 3b4f142edd36a7a3ea8a09e96769070a.jpg][Image: 74a1b9d3bdda3a2ad33c15d18638a92b.jpg][Image: 91fd849043692d527c777fa837c18adf.jpg]

My tank is starting to get a lot of hair algae every where. Emerald crab ok for fish? Some websites say yes and some say at your own risk.
